Historic Egyptian Palace Integrates High-Tech Touches for a Hotel Like No Other

CAIRO, EGYPT--(Marketwired - Sep 8, 2014) - When it comes to historic hotels of Egypt, there is only one undisputed king, and that is the Cairo Marriott Hotel & Omar Khayyam Casino. The original building dates back to the 19th century when Khedive Ismail had it specially constructed to welcome royal guests who were in town to witness the inaugural celebrations of the Suez Canal. While the monarchs have come and gone, the palace remains beautifully intact and, with the arrival of new tech-friendly features, a showpiece for what modern hospitality can be.

Guests arriving at this Cairo, Egypt palace hotel may expect an anachronism that transports them back in time. What they find, however, is a property that thoughtfully melds the best of historic grandeur with contemporary convenience. Case in point is the Wi-Fi access that guests can now enjoy on a complimentary basis, not just in the public areas but in their guest rooms and throughout the hotel.

This move was made especially with the Millennial traveler in mind. As people reinvent the way they work, live and relax, this 5-star Cairo hotel is at the forefront of likeminded hospitality. Today's travelers appreciate easy connectivity, which makes free Internet access highly desirable. That's also why the property was among the first to offer mobile check-in and check-out capabilities (via Marriott's Mobile Guest Services App) to Marriott Rewards members. And the hotel's Red Coat Direct service, which lets meeting planners manage their events in real-time via smart phones and tablets, is like the modern equivalent of the royal treatment for business travelers.

While some things in the world of entertainment haven't changed -- guests, for example, still love being close to all the most famous landmarks in Cairo -- others have. With that in mind, the hotel recently implemented yet another futuristic change when it installed new LED televisions in its guest rooms and suites. Now all deluxe rooms are outfitted with 42-inch televisions, and travelers staying in one of the executive rooms or suites can unwind in front of a 47-inch screen.

Just as Khedive Ismail's original guests experienced the premier splendors and comforts of their day, Marriott's guests can indulge in the latest and greatest of what is available today. After all, attentive service is one thing that never goes out of fashion.

About the Cairo Marriott Hotel & Omar Khayyam Casino Originally built in 1869 as a palace to impress the visiting French Empress Eugenie, the five-star Cairo Marriott Hotel & Omar Khayyam Casino continues to impress in its current incarnation. Its twin towers stretch upwards for 20 stories as they overlook six acres of palace gardens and the indomitable Nile. Its 977 rooms have been updated to include luxury bedding, high-speed Wi-Fi and enhanced workspaces, while 111 suites embody luxury with private balconies, walk-in showers or closets and personal butler service. The 13 restaurants prepare a variety of cuisines on property, from French to Japanese; 35,553 square feet of meeting and banquet space welcome events of every sort; and a world-class casino provides glittering entertainment. The hotel is also near the legendary Pyramids of Giza as well as the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities and the Cairo Opera House, making its location as dramatic as its amenities.
