Well, that is my "assumption" based on the new movies there in Ultraflix V1.2. Thanks for clarifying why I said it. The only way I can explain these movies is through my reasoning of a deal with a content provider. I don't see any other way, unless the movies are pirated...likely not, based on the content provider's name showing up as the movies load up. (also the cost of these movies, ouch)
I guess it's not so bad, when Sony and others charge like $7.99 for 24 hr for rentals of their 4K movies.
I remember walking into a blockbuster and getting 2 movies for 5 days for like 8 bucks or less.

I'm not certain about content providers. I can tell you that there is already one very interesting content provider definitely dealing with Ultraflix that seems to not have been publicly announced.
And yes, there has been quite a lot of "pumping" discussion regarding the NP-1 on this board. But I don't let that influence my investment decisions. Once you make it through the filter, and see what I have seen on the NP-1, you see that there is some truth to it, but the truth is always different than what you'd expect.
When you say they have nothing to offer, I am assuming you haven't purchased the NP-1 and have not viewed Ultraflix. I'm not saying it's perfect and that it is the greatest offering of all possible publicly available (not yet) 4k channels etc. assuming those exist which they don't right now..by far, no. But it's a darned good start from the way I see it. My family has already "used" it for our purposes. /wink

You'd still need a reason for content providers to deal with NTEK at all.
If you may recall, the original reason was supposed to be that NP-1 was the only game in town, and so content providers would be forced to go through them.
Now, they're just going to be another IPTV channel on a smart TV. Smart enough that it has an HEVC decoder built in, but that will be available to all comers for nothing. Anyone, like Hulu, who wants to run 4K content, can. Easily.
NTEK will have no advantage at all.
And no, don't come back and say they have mastering capability. Those machines and shops to turn film into 4K are thick on the ground in Hollywood. They have to be, because more and more cinemas, if not all, are now digital.
That means pretty much any movie you've seen in the last few years is also 4K-ready. If there's a market for it, which has yet to be proven.
But NTEK isn't really in the game at all, because they have absolutely nothing to offer.
I think it is wrong to suggest Nanotech is trying to compete with Sony and Samsung. I don't think that is what is going on at all. In fact, I think Nanotech is hoping Samsung and Sony will eventually let Ultraflix be ported onto new Sony/Samsung TVs (who knows) instead. So I'm not sure what you mean by a competition you suggest may be occurring (i.e. Nanotech begging Sony/Samsung not to produce universally compatible media players). That isn't the case at all I think. And I don't think anyone really cares now about competitive media players. It is the nature of hardware to fall out of use and it only makes you so much money. But an online video service...now that can just give and keep on giving. That's why Ultraflix was and is always the end goal here. And surprisingly, it already has "good" content. It shouldn't but it does lol. We'll see what the next few months brings it.

I actually agree with you about Sony and Samsung. They will see the light sooner or later, when their sales take a hit from their selfish acts. They are hurting themselves by not letting 4K reach critical mass and don't even realize it yet.

That's in your own words. What you like most about the features of the product are things that are available for far less money elsewhere, and in the case of the Shield, with added features that simply blow NP-1 out of the water, no question, no argument.

Why get those? Why not use the product of the company I am invested in, so that I may determine if the product is good or not? I have tested the product. It is a good product. Two birds with one stone. I get to play games. And the product is good.
I can also determine the veracity of any claims made against or for the product, including your own
Another advantage I have is that I can test Ultraflix before its official release (outside of the NP-1) to determine whether or not it is worth it to stay invested in this company. I have determined from my initial viewing of Ultraflix that this is a sound investment with a lot of room for growth.
Since I've gotten Ultraflix v1.2, I have rented 6 movies. Four more freebies -)
Also, Sony and Samsung, want you to buy their 4K TVs. Hence, they make media players specific to their TV. Then deliver content that way claiming that they are concerned about piracy, when really they just want you to buy an expensive 4K TV that almost costs the same to make as an HD tv. Ultraflix is going to be an open platform on multiple TVs, and eventually will have a VOD service, much like Amazon Prime. IN fact, Ultraflix and Amazon Prime already share a few movies

You could get the same thing in a Mad Katz MOJO for much less money and play the same games.
Even better, buy an nVidia Shield. The Shield Tablet is spendy, because it's the Tegra K1, but the regular Shield is the same Tegra 4 as NP-1, and not only does it play the same games, and not only does it have its own very nice high-def screen, so it's mobile, but it still comes in at a mere $199, well under the price of the obsolete and buggy NP-1.
Why would anyone pay so much money for such a piece of junk as an NP-1?

And, if you have a Sony, you'd probably want an NP1 or an Ultraflix account down the road as well, in order to cover the complete selection of 4K content.
I don't have a Sony. So, the Sony player would do me no good. Likewise for anyone with Samsung, LG or any of the other leading brands. NTEK works with any set.
