The Blue Heron was put on the endangered species list in the '70s because of the effects of DDT.
Apparently, the insecticide accumulates as you move up the food chain, and by the time it got to the top predatory birds, it was messing up their eggshells.
40 years later there are more F'n Blue herons on Long Island than there are true blooded Republicans.
They are certainly no longer "endangered".....its just that no one has made the move to take them off the list.
$300 fine and up to 15 days in jail..............if you get caught............
