As for the snake.....why would you even consider killing it? What has that God's creature done to disturb your life except scurry across your path? Last year when I caught a garter snake trying to eat my frogs in the pond, I simply drove him about 5 miles away and let him go in the woods (let him eat worms instead).
LOL.....the Blue Heron.....he will plague me FOREVER. Those birds actually migrate as far as South America in the winter, and no matter where I bring him - he will eventually come back.
And they are territorial....so my pond is part of his territory.
And his success with ponds (he is feasting off my less wary neighbor's ponds as well) makes his method a tried and proven one.
There truly is only one possible outcome to resolve this issue and not make it a long term problem.
Now.....the net is doing its job, and I will consider your comparison, as I truly see myself as a "Jack of all trades, Master of none" kind of guy, but should that Heron keep hanging around my pond......the only thing your comparison is going to do is probably slow me down a bit.....make me do some thinking while I hold his head under the water........and just slow down the inevitable.
Damn.....I hate to see the bird suffer........but I do have the video of how he tortured my poor, innocent bullfrog still fresh in my mind (the picture I took of the 4 large drops of blood on the patio serves as the wallpaper on my cellphone as a constant reminder......)
