As for a .22LR....with a range of up to 1 mile.....I can't risk it. I am at the center of a 4 acre plot, but that round could easily visit one of my neighbors yards - even after exploding MrEaton's head.
For now I am going to stick with the protective netting and a paintball "marker".....and when I get the chance, I am going to open up a panel on the netting and lure him underneath. Then....when he least expects it....I will scare him in deeper....leap on his pansy ass....and drown the bastard.
Seriously.....a wing span of 6 feet and he stands almost 5 feet tall with his neck extended, but he only weighs about 5 1/2 pounds (his bones are hollow). I've got the protective mask from the paintball gun (for my eyes) and leather gloves (to protect my hands from his sharp beak) and a crazy ass attitude of displaying the bastard once caught.
As for the .22 or the 9mm....they might cause too much damage and the end result is too quick.
Besides.........drowning him in the pond in front of all my babies will further show them how much they mean to me (LOL), and the "drowning in the net" story should be more believable to the taxidermist (just have to be careful not to inadvertently break some of his bones in the process - and heck - I also have to avoid getting any scratches on myself that might give me away as well).
Kind of reminds me of O.J. Simpson........................
You know the scariest part of all this..........I am actually glad he arrived.
To tell you the truth, I am tempted to BBQ him and eat him right there along side the pond.....and perhaps toss a few bits and pieces to the fish as I do so.
I'm sure I could use one of his long legs as a fancy back-scratcher.............
