Buy the rumor, sell the news. However, in this case there wasn't even any news to go with it. Unless one counts a rehash of past, non-revenue generating, accomplishments as news.
I'm not so much down on what the company has accomplished, to date, or their prospects, but doing this before laying a better groundwork was an obvious mistake. One which I've seen get the same results dozens of times, and I'm no professional PR guy.
