A four-day rally for U.S. stocks carried the S&P 500 to a fresh intraday record on Thursday after a series of upbeat economic reports.
The S&P 500 added eight points, or 0.4%, to 1994 after hitting a record intraday high of 1994.78 earlier. The broad-market benchmark was on course to top its July 24 closing high of 1987.98.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 87 points, or 0.5%, to 17066. The Dow industrials remain below their July 16 record of 17138.20.
The Nasdaq Composite Index rose seven points, or 0.2%, to 4533.
