Yes, the short volume ratio was extremely high today at about 70% of the total volume. Troubling the excessive shorting is. Though the overall volume for the day was still below about 2% of the float "trading", so in such light volume whatever the MMs want to do is what will happen. They can decide to short most of the bids to buy shares as they come in and decide to either keep those shorts open and on the books or to close them and cover any time they wish. By the way, the short sale volume has nothing to do with MM legged-trades or settled or unsettled trades, it is as simple as the actual short sale transaction volume versus total volume. How the MMs decide to handle those shorts is another matter. That short sale volume probably does not signify retail shorts, most likely its just MM shorting, but they are short sales nonetheless and need to be covered at some point. Difficult it is to decipher what it could mean because it all depends on how and why the MMs are shorting. Are they shorting so much of the total volume because they are all out of shares and cannot fill the retail bids for shares so they short those bids just to fill them with borrowed shares they will attempt to cover later? Or are they shorting so much of the volume because the total volume is still low and they think it may be an easy enough task to take the PPS back down quickly after shorting todays bids, so might as well make some money off of retail buyers above the .002 level, then later when there is really no volume, just walk the PPS down under .002 and cover those shorts for a small profit, instead of just doing their real job by actually finding a seller of real shares for the buyer to fill the order and if no shares are available at those prices do not fill any orders until the bids are high enough to attract real sellers of real shares, which by the way is supposed to be how the market works but we see a lot of hanky panky in the PK market these days with MMs gaming retail traders in low volume every chance they get without oversight by the SEC, FINRA or really anyone who cares about the little fish fry PK retail traders and investors who have to fend for themselves in a crooked marketplace. Go figure.
