Excellent diagram from Roth_IRA_3000. Thank you for that, Roth. Those prices sound reasonable.
With the chart on the right of Roth's diagram being comprised of about half of the plastics PTOI can use and about half "trash/other" plus PET...and costing $293 per ton, it gives you a feel for the cost of sorted plastics.
If you want just HDPE, PP and LDPE, which are hydrocarbon-only plastics and also the only plastics PTOI is allowed to use per their permit, that will cost about $800/ton.
Pound for pound, $800/ton is just below the price for pure diesel. Just like diesel, plastic is a value added material over crude oil, even as recyclable scrap.
Keep in mind that even regular trash can by pyrolyzed into a type of fuel oil...but even though it burns, the value of that type of oil is fairly low. Many companies have tried to use pyrolysis to make a higher value product out of garbage and so far none have succeeded. Maybe Mr. Bordynuik needs to find another magic catalyst which works on regular garbage because the math doesn't work on pyrolyzing hydrocarbon-only plastics.
