thanks -I always liked your pics - why dont you post some here - they simplified the pic posting process here - used to take me 13 steps the way i customized it-and up to twice as many w pic capture- and many could never figure it out no matter how many times i explained it- but now only ca 3 steps - main problem is havent figured out how to stretch pic under new process weil cant even see pic until post now

i dont follow non- dslr's so was not aware of the sx50
would certainly be a simpler quicker solution to our voyagers needs

pros- 50x optical zoom - unheard of just years ago - cant beat the zoom range- AF reportedly has accuracy problems in some reviews at such a range w fast zoom AF but thats expected and can just double up on important shots

digic 5 processor - amazing for a non-dslr
13 fps amazing
claimed 4.5 stops IS built into camera like sony and pentax- many lenses claim 4 stops but rarely get over 2.5 stops
but handheld 1200mm at 1/40sec -unbelievable all right - 5 stops?
and 7 IS modes-amazing

so for 400 can get what would cost 1000 w dslr (not comparable sensors etc) for our voyagers purposes-

of course main drawback of almost any non-dslr is smaller sensor- w sx50 1/2.3"- so less density/pic info/ultimate sharpness/ability to enlarge -as you point out- but enough for our purposes - and max upload pic size here is only 500kb anyway -and lack of versatility other than zoom
I'd like to see a chart of noise and lines of resolution at different iso's -would be curious -to iso 6400-very good- and can take pics in raw rather than relying just on built in software
is it 12 or 14 bits color?
length of video capture?
