MONTERREY, Mexico, Aug. 5, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte, S.A.B. de C.V., known as OMA (Nasdaq: OMAB ) (BMV: OMA ), reports that terminal passenger traffic at its 13 airports increased 6.9% in July 2014, as compared to July 2013. Domestic traffic increased 7.3%, and international traffic increased 4.5%.
Of total July traffic, 98.5% was commercial aviation and 1.5% was general aviation.

Domestic traffic increased in nine airports in July. The most noteworthy increases were in Monterrey (+9.4%; +55,320 passengers), San Luis Potosí (+73.3%; +11,899), and Reynosa (+33.9%; +11,898). Monterrey traffic increased principally on the Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta, Chihuahua, and Querétaro routes. San Luis Potosí traffic increased on the Mexico City, Cancún, Monterrey, and Tijuana routes. Reynosa increased traffic on its Mexico City, Guadalajara, Cancún, and Veracruz routes. Traffic decreased most in Acapulco (-5.5%; -3,178 passengers), principally as a result of decreased traffic on the Toluca route. In July, TAR opened the Monterrey – Puerto Vallarta and Zihuatanejo - Guadalajara routes.
International traffic increased in ten airports in July. Traffic increased most significantly in Monterrey (+4.0%; +3,956 passengers), as a result of increased traffic on the Atlanta and Houston routes. The most significant reduction in traffic was in Mazatlán (-12.2%; -1,644 passengers), principally as a result of lower traffic on the Phoenix route. In July, Volaris began operating the Chihuahua – Denver route.
The number of flight operations (takeoffs and landings) in July increased 6.9% as compared to the same month of last year. The number of domestic operations increased 7.4% and international operations increased 3.7%.
