He had a good line of BS from years of manipulating penny oil stocks. Knowing just a bit was enough to pretend to be an expert for a while to those who knew less and were just investors not trying to play ego games. Easy to play on peoples' fears with that game.

No doubt his credibility fell to zero, but as long as he had the moderator role he was happy. Sad waste of time, he really damaged the group as people don't like to be around that sort of weirdness.
