Everything Everywhere is set to roll out its new 4G network some time this year.
The company, which is a collaboration between Orange and T-Mobile, is trialling the technology up and down the UK.
If it receives regulatory approval, the network will be introduced "as soon as possible" and it will support the organisation's HSPA+ (3.5G) network, which is set to provide customers with 50 per cent faster data speeds.
Chief executive officer at Everything Everywhere Olaf Swantee said this is a chance for the UK "to have the 21st Century network that it so deserves, putting the nation on a level playing field with other parts of Europe, the USA and Asia".
The latest Cisco Visual Networking Index Global Mobile Data Traffic Forecast Update recently suggested the development of 4G technology is driving the increase in mobile data speeds, with mobile connection speeds set to reach more than 2.9Mpbs in 2016.
