U.S. stocks end 1% higher on upbeat data
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — U.S. stocks rose on Thursday after a string of positive U.S. reports provided some optimism that the economic recovery is still underway. The S&P 500 Index (SNC:SPX) rose 15 points, or 1.1%, to 1,428. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI JIA) jumped 136 points, or 1%, to 13,233. The Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQ:COMP) added 43 points, or 1.4%, to 3,020.
