Lake Bayano…A man-made lake and more!
Bayano Lake, located in eastern Panama, was created in 1976, when the Bayano River was dammed. This lake is considered to be one of the largest in all of Panama.
A large percentage of the land that surrounds Lake Bayano was earmarked for those Native Americans that were flooded to create the lake. Lake Bayano now delivers a revenue source for the residents that harvest thousands of tons of tilapia. Tilapia is a popular fish that is sold both locally and globally.
Although Lake Bayano is a man-made lake, the beauty the lake bestows upon the world includes natural habitats of birds and animals, the areas ecosystem is truly remarkable.
This grand lake is home to many species of birds and animals, some rare and seldom seen. Lake Bayano is a wealth of nature, yet few know it exists. Located about an hour and half outside of Panama City, a location robust with tourism, Lake Bayano sits quietly to tourists and locals alike.
