Maybe the doomsday bunch will say the markets are really closed for nefarious reasons-the sky is falling- and all the news coverage and pics of the storm are fake-as they perennially claim re pics of the CWRN mine-despite verification of the pics authenticity and date via exif data.

As for me ,if I was the planner for New York, I wouldnt build some of the worlds most expensive real estate so close to sea level, especially as seal level rises of 3 feet are expected over time due to warming of earths climate-even without any earth shattering events-unless a barrage of freshwater melt off Greenland and Arctic ice sheets blocks the warm gulf current ocean conveyor that moves warmth from the tropics to the east coast as far as Massachusetts and to all of Northern Europe.

I've read books re the historical natural earth cycle-when the earth warms enough that the ocean conveyor shuts down historically and then a mini ice age occurs, as happened in the 1700's in Europe. I've also seen pbs? programs on this by scientists-the series hosted by Alan Alda- and since the Greenland sheet is now known to be floating on an ever increasing river of melt water and huge "sinkholes". more at vortex's. appear to swallow instant melt lakes there etc  that seemed a reasonable possibility, even though the biggest book I read on this-The Coming Global Superstorm- had a new age slant. Wonder why we dont hear more about these things from our doomsday "friends". I see many stock newsletters trumpeting the end of the world every day.

Btw hurricanes derive their strength from the warmth of tropical water as most know?
