There is no contradiction that I can see. Every investor faces decisions every day about whether to buy or sell a stock. All PP is trying to do is to offer a perspective to aid in making that decision.
Do you not believe it to be possible that some people running these companies can be so incompetent or egotistical to run a company into the ground and spend recklessly when here is no hope of a return? It happens at every size of company, including blue chip companies.
It is your duty to recognize it and act, the company will not act in your best interest until too late. It may already be too late...
If you attitude is that you are prepared to lose al of your money and there is something noble about hanging on, you are in for a deeper loss and much more emotional angst down the road.
