In Q1 2014, the shipment volume of smartphones in China witnessed a 15% sequential decline and reached nearly 89.1 million units, with the total number of models launched during this period equivalent to 461. The biggest part of smartphones sold in the county were mid-tier models, which are packed with a dual- or dual-core CPU, have over 8M camera pixels, feature 5-inch or larger screens; these models were sold at prices varying between USD 112.4 and USD 321 (in the local currency between RMB 700 and RMB 2000). Looking ahead, Lenovo and Xiaomi, both outpacing Apple by less than 1% in the first-quarter shipment share, are expected to see an intensifying pressure to hold their current places, as novel iPhone products will likely hit the market in H2 2014.
