BIG Google IO Breakdown and impact for NTEK:
Based on input I have received the Google IO 2014 keynote speech included an amazing demonstration of the upcoming Google L SDK. One of the key components of this is the new android tv component. I'm told Google ran an incredible demonstration of upcoming TV features that are available to Google developers for the living room so called 10 foot experience. The demonstration included incredible gameplay, new search features and many more improvements that will start appearing this fall. What was most incredible, was that the demonstration was run on a set top box using the NVIDIA Tegra 4. Google is using the Tegra 4 as the reference design for developers.
Google is also not going to produce their own box, which means that NanoTech is the market leader. Who is the only company shipping Tegra 4 based set top boxes? NanoTech!!
The NP-1 is the defacto standard for android tv developers. Lesser powered set top boxes won’t provide the same level of quality experience that the NP-1 delivers. The foresight NanoTech had to build on this processor, and work closely with Google to become CTS certified is now showing.
That brings up the second point, the recent CTS certification of the NP-1. It is now clear why this is a key element for the set top box. All of the advanced features of the android tv experience are centered around the Google Play Store. Only CTS certified devices will have access to this library and features. That means that all of the low cost knock off devices that are not Google certified will not provide this next generation experience. The NP-1 will.
With NP-1’s hitting the market now, and able to provide the only 4K streaming experience, and the right components. Others such as Asus and Razr were announced to have devices in the fall. This is competition for the NP-1, yes, but it is also more platforms for UltraFlix.
We all read too much into David's tweet. Overreacted but IMO huge news was still delivered and highlights how successful the NP-1 has the potential to be and how primed the company is to capitalize on the ULtra HD boom!
