This latest success comes at a time when the FireIce Wildland Division continues to gain momentum in 2014. Additional pilot programs and evaluations will be coming online over the summer.
New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources is responsible for forest fire protection on all forest and rangeland in the province. New Brunswick is also a member of the Northeastern Forest Fire Protection Commission, and provides mutual assistance and resource sharing to member agencies including: Maine; New Hampshire; Vermont; New York; Massachusetts; Connecticut; Rhode Island; Quebec; Newfoundland Labrador; Nova Scotia; US Forest Service; US National Park Service; US Fish & Wildlife Service. In a typical year there are over 9,000 forest fires in Canada, burning an average of 2.5 million hectares (ha).
