Dive Brief:
Cirque Energy Inc., headquartered in Detroit, MI, announced a deal to build a biomass gasification plant in Midland, TX.
Cirque Energy will collaborate with ReCom Operating Partners, a local wood-waste recycling company, to build the Midland Biomass Energy Station. Cirque will develop the facility and operate and oversee the plant.
The company anticipates the plant will be open by the end of the first quarter of 2015.
Dive Insight:
Renewable energy generated by the plant will be sold to the utility market via a power-purchase agreement that spans many years. In addition, Cirque struck a deal with Northrop Grumman Corp. to create a portable gasification unit that is able to convert solid waste to produce fuel. The unit can also supplement standard fuels used to create heat and power.
