Dalmahoy Estate has a history dating back to King Alexander III. In spite of this long history, Dalmahoy House has only had three owners. Recorded as first owners, around 1265, the Dalmahoys were descendants of Sir Alexander de Dalmahoy. The house was purchased by the Dalrymples around 1720 and the Douglas family acquired the house from the Dalrymples -- although it is not known how! The Dalmahoy House been in the Douglas family from about 1760, owned today by the 21st Earl of Morton, a direct descendant of the Douglas family. Heraldic emblazonments from each of these families can still be seen today on the walls of the house. To celebrate this history, the hotel is also extending its Scottish restaurant's promotion to those who bear the names of former owners -- Dalmahoy, Dalrymple and Douglas, as part of Homecoming Scotland 2014 festivities near Edinburgh.
