Dear louis:
A couple weeks ago, we sent the message below telling you that Congress might be voting to defund the DEA’s war on medical marijuana. Well, that vote is happening, and it’ll likely happen tonight or tomorrow. If you haven’t already, please contact your member of Congress and encourage your friends to do the same.
Find out how your member of Congress voted on letting Veterans Affairs doctors recommend medical marijuana, then follow up with him/her ahead of next week’s vote.
While 21 states recognize medical marijuana, patients who use it and the caregivers and dispensaries that provide it to them are at risk. The DEA has raided countless medical marijuana businesses, and the Department of Justice has prosecuted and imprisoned people making every effort to comply with state law. Fortunately, Congress can end those raids.
Next week when the House debates a bill funding the Department of Justice, Representatives Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) and Sam Farr (D-CA) will introduce an amendment seeking to prevent any funds from being used to interfere with state medical marijuana laws. Last week, the House voted on an amendment to let Veterans Affairs doctors recommend medical marijuana. That vote narrowly failed, but the voting list gives us critical hints as to which members we need to focus on now.
We’ve set up a page where you can find out how your member voted on the recent VA amendment. Based on how your legislator voted, we’ve got links to pre-written letters allowing you to either thank him or her for supporting the amendment, or encourage those who voted against it to reconsider.
Please head over there now, then forward this message to friends and family. Thanks!
