TDS Telecom Launches 1 Gigabit High-speed Internet Service in Hollis, N.H.

HOLLIS, N.H., May 28, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via PRWEB - TDS Telecom (TDS®) announces 1Gig high-speed Internet service is now available in Hollis, New Hampshire. Hollis becomes the first place in the country where TDS is rolling out its fastest speed ever--one gigabit--and it's available for less than $100 per month with a bundle.

"Reliable access to high-speed broadband is critical to connecting New Hampshire to the digital world," states U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte. "It will take robust private sector investment to build out our nation's fiber optic network, and I applaud TDS for launching this new service in Hollis, New Hampshire."

The new, faster Internet speed TDS is introducing is designed to meet the ever-growing demand by customers for bandwidth. Real-time entertainment, according to recent data, accounts for more than 67 percent of all downstream Internet traffic during peak hours. With TDS' 1Gbps download/400 Mbps upload, customers can transfer HD movies in seconds and stream them seamlessly--even on multiple devices.

"What can you do with 1Gig? Whatever you want," says Matt Apps, manager of Internet product management and development at TDS. "This state-of-the art connection is one hundred times faster than the average connection. It's only available in only a few communities across the country. With 1Gig, you experience the Internet full-throttle."

This is the second time TDS is announcing a new, faster speed in Hollis. In December 2013 , TDS launched 300Mbps Internet speed along with TDS TV®, a Mediaroom-based all-digital TV service. Now, customers within TDS' fiber-optic network footprint can order the new speed immediately as part of a TDS TV bundle.

TDS' 1Gig Internet service includes a free subscription to Remote PC Support which provides unlimited access to technical expertise. Remote PC Support technicians assist with device setup, Internet troubleshooting, plus computer optimization and safety.

"Both TDS TV and 1Gig represent the best technology money can buy," said Apps. "While Hollis is the first TDS-served community with 1Gig service, it won't be the last. This is just the start for our launch of super-high speed Internet."

TDS is working with Actiontec Electronics and Calix, Inc. to bring 1 Gigabit fiber network to residents in Hollis. Actiontec is the CPE (Customer Premise Equipment) supplier, while Calix is deploying its E7-2 Ethernet Service Access Platform and 700GE family of optical network terminals.

TDS TV, which uses the Mediaroom® platform and features more than 260 all-digital channels (including HD), video-on-demand, pay-per-view, picture-in-picture channel surfing, and instant channel change. It also includes a Connected-Home DVR, which links all TVs together in a home giving full DVR functionality to each set-top box. Wireless set-top boxes are also available. TDS has been providing customers in New Hampshire with telecommunications services for more than 40 years and currently employs about 50 people in the state. For more details about TDS' 1Gig service, visit tdstelecom.com or call 888-CALL-TDS.
