legal, again, I respect your ideas. We all have different ideas and opinions based on our own life experiences. There is no right, there is no wrong. Based on my own life experience, I say that if you have a plan, either personal or business plan, you must get to "know" your competitor. In other words, You must get to know your weaknesses and obstacles you will have to face in order to attain that goal. But then, if you want to succeed in your plan, you must IGNORE your obstacles, and FOCUS all your energy into accomplishing your goal(s). Why divide the so needed attention with the opponent (potential obstacle)? It's true that the quote "Keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer..." makes sense. But keeping the enemy closer does not mean (IMO) invite it/him/her into your home. Let's keep the enemy in the back yard, maybe? Time to time, let's take a peek on what the "enemy" is doing? LOL!
OK, now I gotta go. I take this as a healthy exchange of ideas, but be assured that I respect yours. Just do not tell me to keep my head in the sandbox please, I refuse.
