This is the newer version with a Wi-Fi extension, so theoretically it could go as high as 2500 - 3000 feet straight up, IE not moving horizontally away from your position. That said, only an idiot would do that. It has software that will not allow it to take off within certain radius of airports and such. I live near a hospital that has helicopter traffic occasionally below 500 Ft at times, so I would never fly it here above 100 ft or so, plus I wouldn't want my neighbors to think I was some pervert or something LOL. I would never fly it over someone's private property anyway, as besides just not being cool, I think they might have a case for shooting it down, no joke.
It's definitely a gadget that requires some responsibility. I think FAA rules declare you should never fly it above 400 ft, but if your in a rural area you could safely go a little above that. The truth is the best videos are shot at lower altitudes in the 100 - 300 feet range anyway. There are lots of open spaces in new Mexico that would be very safe to fly and the 1080p videos are pretty fantastic.
So catty, to answer your question, yeah, I think if you don't follow the rules, and especially if your in a high traffic area, you could collide with another object like a plane and it could take it down. I would never find out!! The newest feature on it is that you can program it with waypoint GPS coordinates that doesn't even require you to control the flight path. But again, the software puts restrictions in place in case your a bonehead and decide your drone can safely share the control zone airspace. In essence it will tell you, you can't fly at that altitude with those GPS points. Then since you use an I-PHONE for camera control as well as software programming and firmware updates, SIRI calls you a dumb ass.
Again though, the best videos are shot at much lower altitudes anyway. My GF actually got it for me. She is going to Europe with her friends and I'm staying here to take care of the boys (our 2 dogs), so she surprised me.
If you look at the videos some have posted using this particular drone they are pretty impressive. I'm a photo/video hobbyist so this is a nice addition to collection. Definitely better than the head cam I wore on our last trip when we went 4 wheeling. She actually said I looked nerdy, can you imagine that?
Yeah Japple, I already found a parts replacement source LOL. I was just in a good mood this weekend, and the first one I remember not being stressed out for months. I realize this has nothing to do with what this board is about, just felt the urge to share. I'm pretty excited to try it out later this week.
Thanks for letting me interrupt the conversation on FITX. I promise not to post videos often, say as in same number as OCTRADER Kick -Ass analytics. Just a diversion. I really need some occasionally.
Good Luck too all! Have a great holiday.
