Will Gloria Allred Try to Destroy Mitt Romney with an ‘October Surprise’?

That’s what some people are saying. Gloria Allred will neither confirm nor deny the rumor. Why should see? It’s supposed to be a surprise.

Allred is famous for defending the salacious. When accusations were leveled at Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain, Allred was in the middle of the action. Publicity is her middle name. It’s not so much about winning; it’s more about destroying the opposition whether or not there is a case to be made. Of course, money also helps.

Back in August, Allred wrote “an open letter to Congressman Todd Akin imploring him to stay in the Missouri Senate race after shocking comments he made . . . claiming that a woman couldn’t get pregnant from a ‘legitimate rape,’” RadarOnline.com reported. She wanted him to lose.

Good for her, because it now looks like Todd Akin is leading the Senate race in Missouri against Claire McCaskill.

A document dump on some long-hidden scandal or false accusation (usually of a sexual nature) is designed to sow doubts in the minds of independent voters and not give the candidate enough time to answer the charges. Of course, Allread, a lifelong Democrat and outspoken supporter of President Obama, and the pro-Obama media will make sure that whatever the allegation is they will try to insure that it does maximum damage to Romney’s campaign.

You may recall “Rathergate,” named after Dan Rather, the once well respected CBS news anchor. Supposedly four documents that were said to have been written by “the former commanding officer of President George W. Bush in the early 1970s were made public by CBS on its 60 Minutes Wednesday program.” They were designed to show that President Bush “may have shirked his duties while in service with the Texas Air National Guard.”

Independent studies of the documents showed they were forgeries:

The script used in the document was instantly suspected. Bloggers picked it up immediately as “Times New Roman,” and matched the documents up with the default layout of Microsoft Word. As to it being a part of the U.S. military, journalist Robert Bluey wrote “The typography experts couldn’t pinpoint the exact font used in the documents. They also couldn’t definitively conclude that the documents were either forged using a current computer program or were the work of a high-end typewriter or word processor in the early 1970s. But the use of the superscript “th” in one document — “111th F.I.S” — gave each expert pause. They said that is an automatic feature found in current versions of Microsoft Word, and it’s not something that was even possible more than 30 years ago.”

The media didn’t come to these findings; it was independent journalists that did the work that a news agency like CBS should have done. Kind of like the background research Whoopi Goldberg should have been done before accusing Ann Romney that Mormons don’t serve in the military. Goldberg was most likely confusing Mormons with Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Don’t forget the document dump a week before the 2000 election when a 1976 DUI incident was made public about George W. Bush. He was 30 years old at the time of the arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol near his parents’ home in Kennebunkport, Maine.

Allred is hoping for something big in order to derail Romney. It needs to be salacious enough to do damage, but not so much that people question its reliability. Allred has had a lot of practice in the salacious department, so don’t be surprised if she takes to the microphone in front of a compliant media in an attempt to win one more for the Obama.

Of course, Obama is immune to any October Surprise since there have been at least one each month for nearly 4 years. The media just dismisses them.
