Shares of Gentiva Health Services Inc. (GTIV) soared on Thursday's trading session, after Kindred Healthcare (KND) reported a proposal to acquire all of the outstanding shares of common stock of GTIV in a cash and stock combination, for a total equity value of approximately $533 million. With the assumption of GTIV’s debt, the transaction would be valued at approximately $1.6 billion.
The unsolicited proposal was rejected by GTIV as it expects to generate more value as a stand-alone company.
