Yes. That is the logic. There are companies that have enough waste plastic to make owning a couple of processors, and the infrastructure and logistics required to run them, a better alternative to paying to landfill the waste.
I believe there are some of these situations, but I remain unconvinced there are many that will meet the narrow set of requirements to make it work.
Most companies will not have enough waste plastic of the right type. Most companies using plastic will have minimal waste while the big waste problem is scattered to their consumers.
Until a model that includes separation of plastic waste at the waste collection points - large waste processing facilities like the one serving NYC - the market for JBI processors will be pretty small.
I will be happy to see this reach $.80 again. Remember the good old days when that was the floor?
