In Bid for More Power, Obama Hypes Alarmist “Climate” Report
In what critics said was a transparent bid to build some semblance of support for more usurpations of power and its economy-crushing executive decrees on “global warming,” the Obama administration is hyping a massive new report on “climate change,” released May 6, packed with alarmism, pseudo-science, and bizarre fear-mongering. Top White House officials warned that the American people, acting through their elected representatives in Congress, have “zero chance” of stopping the looming avalanche of abuses. Opponents of the climate hysteria and escalating federal lawlessness, however, are not so sure.
Of course, even the most fanatical global-warming theorists acknowledge that there has actually been no increase in temperatures for almost 18 years — and counting. The lack of any warming thoroughly discredited every single one of the United Nations’ 73 climate “computer models,” all of which predicted drastic temperature rises over that period. The theories underpinning the hysteria have been largely debunked, too. And the implosion of the pseudo-scientific “climate” scare is accelerating faster than the record high levels of sea ice in the Antarctic. Recent polls, meanwhile, show that most Americans do not believe the theories and that “climate action” ranks dead last on the public’s list of 15 priorities.
More than a few experts whose track records are far better than the UN’s have even warned that a period of global cooling may be on the way — or even already here, covered up by brazen deception in the temperature record from NASA and NOAA. “There is overwhelming evidence that global warming no longer exists and that the use of CO2 and the greenhouse gas theory by the UN and our own government represents what I and other scientists believe is the greatest scientific fraud in history,” explained Space and Science Research Corporation (SSRC) chief John Casey, a former White House space program advisor and climate researcher.
In a letter to Obama sent last week, Casey warned the White House of the dangers his institute expects from the coming planetary cooling period. “The record winter of 2013-2014 along with others in the past six years is but one example of how this recently started solar hibernation will continue to make the Earth much colder,” he warned, adding that 18 out of 24 parameters monitored for the Global Climate Status Report show a cooling trend. “Sadly, even though the Earth is now cooling rapidly, we still see the current U.S. administration and other countries trying to force-feed this bad science on their citizens.”
For UN and Obama administration climate alarmists, however, the ludicrous war on carbon dioxide — a main component of human breath — must expand regardless of the facts, the Constitution, or even Congress. From waging a “war on coal” to imposing radical anti-CO2 policies by executive fiat, the White House has been on a rampage. It appears to analysts — even in the establishment press — that the latest alarmist report is an effort to boost virtually non-existent public support (when Obama’s AstroTurf group tried to organize a “climate rally” last year, not a single person showed up) for the increasingly draconian decrees.
Even without public support or constitutional legitimacy, however, radical Obama policy architect John Podesta said the administration’s executive machinations will proceed — whether Congress agrees or not. “They'll find various ways, particularly in the House, to try to stop us from using the authority we have under the Clean Air Act,” claimed Podesta, who worked with the UN recently to produce a plan aimed at “dramatically” altering the views and behavior of every person on the planet. “All I would say is that those have zero percent chance of working. We're committed to moving forward with those rules.”
All of those “rules” are supposedly justified by global-warming theories, which are crumbling. Indeed, the latest report, dubbed the “National Climate Assessment,” reads more like the paranoid ranting of a doomsday cult than a scientific analysis of evidence. “Climate change, once considered an issue for a distant future, has moved firmly into the present,” warns the ominous 840-page document. “Corn producers in Iowa, oyster growers in Washington state and maple syrup producers in Vermont are all observing climate-related changes that are outside of recent experience.”
Coming right on the heels of another record-setting cold winter across the United States, the report also defies common sense and the experiences of hundreds of millions of Americans. “Summers are longer and hotter, and extended periods of unusual heat last longer than any living American has ever experienced,” the report claimed, falsely. “Winters are generally shorter and warmer. Rain comes in heavier downpours. People are seeing changes in the length and severity of seasonal allergies, the plant varieties that thrive in their gardens, and the kinds of birds they see in any particular month in their neighborhoods.”
So-called climate change — the term now used by alarmists to describe what was formerly known as "global warming" — presents a “major challenge for society,” the report continued. “There is mounting evidence that harm to the nation will increase substantially in the future unless global emissions of heat-trapping gases are greatly reduced,” the document also claimed. Of course, no mention was made of the fact that human emissions of CO2 represent a fraction of one percent of all “greenhouse gases” present naturally in the atmosphere.
While the administration and the UN have been making increasingly ridiculous claims, more than a few lawmakers in Congress have refused to drink the Kool-Aid. “This report is part of the game the president is playing to distract Americans from his unchecked regulatory agenda that is costing our nation middle-class jobs, new economic opportunities and our ability to be energy independent,” Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), one of the leading climate realists in Congress, told The Wall Street Journal. However, it was not immediately clear whether Republicans in either chamber had a plan to actually stop or rein in the abuses. One option would be to simply defund all of it.
Outside of Washington, D.C., it appears that Obama’s latest push for “climate action” may have been coordinated with the UN, which is also working fiendishly to keep some warming hysteria alive as its controversial theories crumble on the world stage. “Climate change is the defining issue of our time,” claimed UN boss Ban Ki-moon at a global warming summit in the United Arab Emirates this week. “If we do not take urgent action, all our plans for increased global prosperity and security will be undone.” The UN is demanding an agreement to create a global climate regime by 2015.
Of course, as has happened with virtually every pseudo-scientific “climate” report produced by the UN or the Obama administration, the latest one will almost certainly be torn to shreds once real scientists and experts have an opportunity to go through it. In the meantime, though, the establishment media have had a field day trumpeting the dire warnings, urging Americans to submit to a lawless climate regime or be alternatively burned up, drowned, frozen, or worse. Many of the “news” reports read more like press releases prepared by alarmist officials than actual news.
As the implosion of global-warming theories intensifies and despite Obama's witch hunt, real scientists are defecting from the sinking ship in record numbers — even many who worked on the UN’s widely ridiculed “climate” outfits. In the United Kingdom, members of Parliament are even calling for an extreme crackdown on climate realists as the public increasingly rejects the alarmism. Based on the latest round of fear-mongering and threats of executive decrees, global-warming theorists appear to realize that their window of opportunity to foist a planetary climate regime on humanity is on the verge of being slammed shut. In the end, though, the truth will win out.
