ECOB's Defensive Lumber May Get Put To The Test With Two Model Homes
Eco Red ShieldTM Protected Lumber Specified for use by Lancaster, California Desert Crest Developer as Southern California Wild Fires Start Breaking Out
VISTA, Calif., May 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Eco Building Products, Inc. (OTCBB: ECOB) announced today that the Wells Eason development in West Lancaster, California is now ready to proceed with construction of two more model homes for the Desert Crest Project located in West Lancaster, CA. The project is currently underway with concrete ready for framing material that ECOB will deliver on Monday May 5th, 2014 with forty-one (41) additional production units to follow depending on current sales.
This area in the High Desert referred to as "The Antelope Valley" was once a hot spot for builder's in the big market during 2005. When we first selected this area to build, Lancaster was ranked the fastest growing city in the U.S. This builder initially promoted this certified GREEN development's use of solar panels and the integration of other technically advanced building materials. Now taking on a more defensive posture, this builder is now highlighting Eco Red ShieldTM protected Lumber & ECOB Trusses, providing this development with defense against potential floods and fire storms in the region.
Lancaster was once the epicenter of the "Power House Fire" that burned thousands of acres during a Santa Ana wind storm fueled by extreme heat, similar to the weather in Southern California today where over 1000 acres are currently burning. Infamous for fanning regional wildfires in Southern California, the Santa Ana Winds have come early this year. In past years, billions of dollars of damage have been incurred as a result of these destructive wildfires, most of which represent consumed housing stock in the region. This Lancaster, California housing development now under construction has been specified with ECOB's Red Shield protected lumber, representing this developer's commitment at ensuring the safety of his customers and their homes being developed.
This Lancaster area just like San Diego has grown back from fires a few years ago, and potential they will burn in the future, similar to a high likelihood that the North East will flood again. We have watched American wood-framed buildings come under attack all around this country, and now we are starting to get calls from Insurance Companies asking questions about our product line. Maybe one day production builders will realize that building defensive may be better than the "green" angle they have all used, just like this Desert Crest Builder in their promotion. Two years ago in Colorado, fire hit that region hard, and then last year flooding made national headline while we watched some of these houses being rebuilt as if Mother Nature wasn't going to strike again. Events like the Northridge earthquake in CA supported the fact that the Engineering Community raised the bar on lateral strength with hardware that birthed products like, Simpson Strong Walls, and now we are seeing that these storms that are delivering more flooding than ever before, coupled with high winds. Maybe it's time to raise the bar on protecting wood fiber strength. Whether or not recent extreme weather is tied to climate change, precautionary measures put into place today are certain to provide a level of protection for these homes against the inevitable. In addition to ECOB's offering of Eco Red Shield, the Company also carries a variety of defensive products that provide protection against flooding, similar to what we saw this past week in New Jersey.

"At ECOB, we recognize the need to continue the lead on educating the specifying community on protecting the wood fiber strength values and the people that live in wood-framed structures. We are hoping that during our NY/NJ Home Tour in late May we get a good response because we know when they walk the two homes we are building, they will see this is the way of the future for everywhere in the US. Let's face it whether your building in Lancaster or New Jersey raw lumber is now code minimum in any area that has been affected by any weather related storm. As May shows up and over 1000 acres are on fire our Lumber Trucks rolling north towards Lancaster and south towards San Diego delivering Red Shield Lumber and Trusses while crews are battling rain trenching footings in Breezy Point and coating lumber in Augusta, GA and in all regions the weather is breaking records proving the need to embrace change," says Steve Conboy, President/CEO, Eco Building Products, Inc.
