Total Multimedia Inc. (TMM) (Pink Sheets: TMMI) today announced that they have established a joint Web site with Digital Focus Media Inc. (DFMI) to show video clips compressed with the new fractal based codec.
The fractal algorithms, which are at the base of the new DFMI codec, are the only resolution independent fractal algorithms available today. They allow the user the ability to decompress digital video data at resolutions and color depths both higher and lower than the original capture.
In a Web site the same file could serve as both the thumbnail and the full screen version. Viewers can watch, pause and stop programs at their will, and continue to watch the presentation without missing any of the action.
DFMI and TMM believe that this technology can have long-range dramatic implications for the entertainment, and particularly the sports industry. When the full capabilities of the computer merge or converge with the high resolution capabilities of today's video screens, viewers will be empowered with different viewing capabilities that will give them much greater flexibility in watching programming.
Today, TMM and DFMI are proud to show some of the first clips compressed using the new codec. The high bandwidth clips, demonstrate that viewers with broadband connections can experience almost DVD like video today. The 56k modem clip shows how the codec can provide a dramatically improved viewing experience for viewers with today's typical Internet connections.
Joe Stratter, CEO of Digital Focus Media looks forward to a strong relationship with TMM. "DFMI must use every available opportunity to move their products/services/licenses into the production environment. DFMI views this opportunity with Total Multimedia Inc. as a huge step for our corporation and our shareholders," said Stratter.
Tom Simpson, CTO for Digital Focus Media stated: "I see TMM taking our `test track' models of compression to the proving grounds. We have been working towards the day when `Fractal' geometric algorithms will showcase and compete as a world wide standard. With Total Multimedia working closely with DFMI we see this day as here and now.
"We have great things in store for the new Web site, we have some great new sources of technology on board. Both TMM and DFMI have ramped up to production mode. Look forward to a fast paced and exciting new year for both companies."
TMM President Mike Fernandez stated: "We are proud of the video quality that these clips show, they speak for themselves. We look forward to offering new additional clips for your review and hope soon to provide these clips in a streaming format.
"With our partners at DFMI we are very close to the point that we will be able to offer a range of services to Web users who want to upgrade their Web presentations using high quality video. It has been a long journey for TMM but we feel that Fractal video can transform the Web viewing experience."
TMM and DFMI expect to offer compression products and services using the new codec, starting in the fall of 2001. TMM will target the existing Internet users whose presentations can be improved with high quality video, particularly corporate Web sites that process large volumes of changing video data and Web broadcasters. TMM will service users worldwide through its joint TMM/DFMI facilities in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
