German telco Deutsche Telekom has obtained the green light from the European Commission for its acquisition of GTS Central Europe.
The takeover which was announced in November 2013 has been approved by the EU competition authority without conditions.
“We are pleased that we can now close the transaction and start the integration of GTS. It fits perfectly into our strategy of building a pan-European network and strengthens our position with business and multinational customers,” said Claudia Nemat, board member for Europe and technology at Deutsche Telekom. “Moreover, it will enable us to offer all of our wholesale customers competitive, high-quality services.”
GTS is one of the main infrastructure-based telecommunications service providers in Central and Eastern Europe including a large portfolio of services focused on business customers. The company which achieved a turnover of €337 million in 2013 owns and operates fibre-optic networks in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.
