The concept of a smart mobile wallet is not entirely new. Products like COIN and LOOP allow for contactless payment at the behest of their users, who program gift cards and credit cards directly into their smart wallets for easy access. This situation can be dangerous if access is too easy, but fortunately the Shelton based compeny NXT-ID, Inc. has devised a new mobile wallet that operates independently of a smartphone, and uses voice recognition to authenticate users.
Known by the name of Wocket , the device proves to be an innovative installation into the field of mobile wallets thanks to the fact that voice recognition technology ensures that one person and one person only has access to the contents within. Even with security threats like the recent heartbleed bug that released several passwords and other critical information to hackers, someone would still have to be able to perfectly replicate your voice to have access to the finances within the Wocket .
On top of voice recognition technology, a combination of PIN numbers and pattern recognition passwords offer multi-level security for the wallet, so that hackers would still need more than just one password to gain access. Wocket is small enough to fit in a pocket or purse, yet powerful enough to store up to 10,000 cards, records coupons and more – and space for up to 100 unique voice commands.
“We are posturing Wocket as the evolution of smart in wallets,” says NXT-ID CEO Gino Pereira. “It's important for consumers to differentiate it from competitors like COIN and LOOP. We have many unique product features, with one of the key differences being that Wocket is functionally separate from your smartphone.” The fact that the device is separated from simply being an app on a smartphone embraces the concept that security is only as strong as the weakest link. No matter how many levels of security a smart wallet may have, hackers with access to a smartphone's memory will be able to leverage it for access. As a standalone product, Wocket is able to protect information at the highest levels of scrutiny.
