Back when this whole Crimea thing first started up

The people were so frightened, that a rumor was going around that if a government official spoke to you in Russian, and you responded in Russian, that they would then slit your throat.
Now, I know that sounds way far fetched, but it brings up the point that the pro Russians in Crimea and in the rest of the Ukraine really didn't start this problem. Seems things were getting a little uncomfortable over there for a while with the new government.
Currently, the pro Russians in the Ukraine are being called separatists, and having seen what Crimea was able to do, it seems like the desire is starting to spread throughout the Ukraine....or at least in the Eastern part of the Ukraine (where many pro-Russians reside).
Any of our Russian/Ukrainian posters want to add their two cents as to the current situation? I'm just wondering how politically involved the girls who do my lap dancers truly are. Sometimes I think the opinion among the people on the streets is a lot more accurate and a far cry from what we read in the media.
