Basis Technology to Showcase Digital Forensics and Entity Resolution at Upcoming Cyber Crime and Intelligence Conferences

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., April 8, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Basis Technology, the leader in multilingual search/text analytics and open source digital forensics, announced today that Dr. Brian Carrier, Vice President of Digital Forensics, will present Autopsy 3.0 to audiences at the upcoming National Cyber Crime Conference on April 28, 2014 in Norwood, MA and US Cyber Crime Conference on April 30, 2014 in Leesburg, VA. Dr. Carrier will deliver his talk "Autopsy 3: Free, Windows-based, and Easy to Use" at both conferences to highlight the features, capabilities and applications of the powerful open source digital forensics toolkit. Additionally, Basis Technology will be showcasing its full suite of text analytics and entity resolution capabilities, including Rosette Entity Resolver , Odyssey , and Odyssey for OSINT , at the GEOINT Symposium from April 14-17, 2014 in Tampa, FL.

Autopsy 3.0 is an open source, end-to-end digital forensics platform based on The Sleuth Kit . It's a free user-friendly, windows-based tool that has all of the standard features of a commercial digital forensics tool, including file recovery, keyword searching, hash matching, registry analysis, web analytics, etc. Dr. Carrier's presentation will cover the exciting features of the system and its extensible design, which makes it easy to incorporate 3rd party modules. Targeted towards both users and developers, audience members will learn about the tool and how they can use it, as well as the basics of how developers can extend the Autopsy platform themselves.

"Autopsy brings an unprecedented set of open source tools to the digital forensics market to ensure that investigators have ready access to powerful technologies that can have a major impact on their abilities to analyze digital information. This has massive potential for the cyber crime investigation market and beyond, including white collar/financial crimes, child exploitation, private investigation, the legal community, etc.," said Dr. Carrier. "By presenting Autopsy to audiences at the upcoming National and US Cyber Crime Conferences later this month, we hope to show investigators the immensely powerful tools that are available to help them with their jobs while keeping associated costs to a minimum."

At GEOINT 2013, Basis Technology will be exhibiting its full range of text/linguistics analytics tools and entity resolution solutions geared towards intelligence professionals working for and with government agencies. Located at booth #6045, the on-site team will offer information on and demonstrations of the following solutions:

  • Rosette Entity Resolver: The latest addition to the Rosette suite of linguistic software components, Rosette Entity Resolver (RES) connects unstructured text to real-world people places and organizations.
  • Odyssey: Odyssey is Basis Technology's launch pad for creating complex solutions for analyzing "Big Text"—difficult and messy data sources—such as financial records, electronic medical records, case law, social media and intelligence documents.
  • Odyssey for OSINT:  Odyssey of OSINT is a custom-built software solution for government users to identify and extract intelligence from publicly available sources, such as newspapers, blogs, Twitter, and other social media. Information from open source can greatly influence and inform government policy and actions; however, uncovering the important documents and sections among a vast haystack of irrelevant text can be very difficult and time-consuming. When combined with the Rosette suite of text analytics software, Odyssey of OSINT users can boost the productivity of scarce human resources by using sophisticated algorithms to quickly and accurately bring forth critical documents worthy of review.
