This is why Web master forums and discussion boards are targetted, in order to bring in a target audience who are more likely to have the toolbar installed.
2. Claim your site on Alexa.com
You can claim your site on Alexa.com and it will be yours, and you can help increase your rank through this too. You can also pay a small fee each month and have a logo attached to your listing, which so far, even though I no longer have that service as I do not require it, the logo still remains on the listing page, which is a nice touch. You also get two backlinks from the Alexa page to pages on your site of your choice.
3. Webmaster Forums
I found this as a great place to go. Places like v7n, Digital Point, Warrior Forums. If you are not really into the webmaster side of things then this might not be for you, as most of the topics will be about Search Engines and ways to make a website better. But, it will allow you to learn some new things, and the people you bring back from these will more likely have the Alexa Toolbar installed, thus improving your rank.
4. Contests
Host a contest, or a Giveaway. Not only will this boost your Social Media horizons, but it will bring in a lot of people in one go and have a good affect on your Alexa Ranking.
5. Go viral
Probably the best way to bring in a good rank is a big burst of traffic, and getting a viral hit on the internet is the best way to do this. This could be a topic that gets shared on Facebook a lot, through an email list which then gets forwarded, or a social bookmark post that gets a lot of attention. Either way, its great traffic, and also great for your Alexa Rank too.
