NXT-ID Readies MobileBio Biometrics Solutions Suite for New Show

Contributing TMCnet Writer

The rise of mobile commerce has brought with it a wide array of new opportunities across several different sectors, including crime. Where there are a lot of people with a lot of money, so too will there be not only people out to provide said people with goods and services in exchange for some of that money, but also those just out to take the money outright. This has brought in an increased need for security in mobile commerce, and NXT-ID may have just the solution in its MobileBio line of biometric security mechanisms.

Perhaps the most well-known part of the NXT-ID MobileBio line is the Wocket smart wallet, a device designed to essentially replace most every card in a user's wallet—with the possible exception of the driver's license—all without the need to have a smartphone around to serve as infrastructure. The Wocket will work anywhere where a credit card can be taken—there seems to be no need for new hardware at the point of sale—and will work on the strength of a biometric “stamp of approval,” as it's being called.

Additionally, there's the MobileBio biocloud, which uses cloud systems to establish a kind of biometric database easily accessed by points of entry, so that said points can easily refer to a central location for biometric information. The MobileBio facematch system offers a choice of 2D, 3D, or pseudo-3D face matching technology for mobile devices and even desktop computers, while the MobileBio voicematch system allows the user's voice to serve as a password by matching up the unique voiceprint that each user has.

But as impressive as the MobileBio line is by itself, it won't be the only thing that NXT-ID has in mind to show off. It's also bringing out a complete 3D facial recognition system, yielded from the efforts of NXT-ID's wholly-owned subsidiary, 3D-ID LLC. The company has fully 22 licensed patents to its credit so far, and has a host of applications from regular access control to uses across a spectrum of law enforcement operations from prisons to issues of Homeland Security. NXT-ID will be taking its array of solutions to the Defense and Security Conference, running March 11 at the New York Hilton Midtown.

What NXT-ID seems to have in this mix is not only a complete identification package but an immediately-available place to put this identification package to work. It's one thing to have a great package of solutions, but it's even better when a separate solution can be put to work, tailor-made, to put that package of solutions immediately to work. It's almost like guaranteeing a market of sorts, particularly if the place where the solutions can help is itself popular. It's almost like if Goodyear made a car that ran best with Goodyear tires. While the tires individually might have a market, going with the Goodyear car helps provide a whole other place to use these tires. Plus the profit from the car line goes into the wider business, which can be used for research and development to bring out further improvement and make the line more likely to turn a profit.

NXT-ID's systems should prove a welcome entrant into the mobile wallet stakes; while there are plenty of competitors in this field, being able to offer up not only mobile wallet services but also security for same should be a big help in the long term.
