Here is my take on Russia:

Let's face it - Ukraine can't do jack right now. Russia has taken Crimea and that's that. The United States, as always trying to be Big Brother (but only if Little Brother has a very pretty pile of petroleum to offer), is also powerless in this situation. There will be a lot of testacles flashed over the next few days, but in the end these two will look like a 4 year old Asian in a room full of Ron Jeremy's. 

Now that that's out of the way, let's be realistic here...Syria was MUCH worse than this, especially because of its location (close to Israel, oil, and Iran). Ukraine has nothing to offer, and Russia is obviously not a country the US will invade (unless Putin converts to Islam).

So, what now? I believe over the next 2-3 weeks this will subside, Crimea will be a Russian state, and Ukraine will have to walk with a very obvious "just got raped in the ass, jail style" limp until the wound heals. This will all be over very soon.
