Dear
Today, the Florida House of Representatives did what was unthinkable a year ago: a (CBD-only) medical marijuana bill was passed out of committee with only one “nay” vote.
I cannot overstate how important this is to our mission of bringing compassionate care to Florida. The fact that our legislature – which previously would not even give medical marijuana a hearing – passed this bill shows how the door to sensible policy is finally cracking open.
But this bill is very, very narrow and simply does not provide access to care to ALL those who need it.
The bill passed today approves a specific strain of marijuana called "Charlotte's Web" - which has been shown to help a small number of conditions such as epilepsy, Dravet’s Syndrome and other seizure disorders.
Amendment 2 - which we will pass in November - will help people across the spectrum of debilitating illnesses and conditions, from those with cancer and AIDS, to those with glaucoma, MS, and severe neuropathic pain.
We want the legislature to pass this bill. It's a step forward for the patients and families that are desperate for the relief that “Charlotte’s Web” can bring – and it sends a message to Floridians that marijuana is, in fact, medicine.
But then Florida needs to pass Amendment 2 and truly deliver compassionate care to all those that need it.
Please pledge your vote for Amendment 2 here - and if you've already pledged, please register here as a volunteer and/or contribute to our campaign .
