Alliant Energy Power Wisconsin project nearly complete in Beloit
Company investing $3.7 million in new Beloit Gateway Substation to boost electric capacity
Beloit, Wis. – September 14, 2012 – Wisconsin Power and Light Company (WPL), an Alliant Energy company, is putting the finishing touches on another Power Wisconsin Project. The project involves building a new substation near the Gateway Business Park on Beloit’s east side to support future electric load growth and also increase electric system reliability.
“Our electric load is growing as new customers are moving into the Gateway Business Park and this new Beloit Gateway Substation is needed to accommodate the growth as well as expected future growth in the area,” said Greg Ardrey, Alliant Energy’s Manager of Project Management - Substations. “In addition to providing more electric capacity, the new substation will increase overall electric reliability and give us back-up capability for our customers.”
The new Beloit Gateway Substation has been under construction since October 2011 and the electrical work on the substation is expected to be done by the end of September. Landscaping and a driveway will be added early next month with a likely substation in service date of mid-October. Alliant Energy’s total investment in the new Beloit Gateway Substation is approximately $3.7 million.
Alliant Energy’s 2012 Power Wisconsin Plan includes approximately $60 million of planned investments this year in upgrading overhead and underground electric lines, electric substations and natural gas infrastructure. Power Wisconsin’s goal is to improve system reliability, reduce outages, and provide more reliable power to Alliant Energy’s Wisconsin customers.
