Alliant Energy Power Wisconsin project in Markesan nearly completed
Markesan Substation upgrade will improve electric reliability in the area
Markesan, Wis. – September 14, 2012 – Wisconsin Power and Light Company (WPL), an Alliant Energy company, is nearly finished with another Power Wisconsin Project. The project involves improving the reliability of the Markesan Substation located along West Manchester Street, just east of Airport Road, on the southwest side of Markesan. Alliant Energy is adding new switches, insulators, arresters, fuses, fuse holders, and other equipment to the substation.
“The Markesan Substation needed refurbishment to keep it operating effectively and reliably so we are upgrading the station with new equipment,” said Greg Ardrey, Alliant Energy’s Manager of Project Management - Substations. “We want to make an investment now in the substation so that it will provide many more years of reliable service to our Markesan area customers.”
The company’s investment in the upgrade project, which should be finished by the end of September, is approximately $116,000. Alliant Energy’s 2012 Power Wisconsin Plan includes $60 million of planned investments this year in upgrading overhead and underground electric lines, electric substations and natural gas infrastructure. Power Wisconsin’s goal is to improve system reliability, reduce outages, and provide more reliable power to Alliant Energy’s Wisconsin customers.
