Description:
Leidos has an opening for an engineer in the field of waste-to-energy technologies for a customer-site position located at several sites within the US.
JOB SUMMARY:
Participate in design of a mobile/deployable waste mitigation system, to be used in austere, forward operating bases and small combat outposts. Enhance the capabilities of an ongoing research & development program, within a multi-disciplinary organization dedicated to advanced force sustainment systems.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, fabrication and tests to be performed are a blend of multiple science & engineering disciplines designed to provide state of the art solutions to real world force sustainment challenges.
• To ensure successful delivery of these solutions, this candidate will collaborate with the top industry, academic, and government researchers.
• This position involves a specific design project focused on the exploration of new ways to reduce waste in these forward deployed areas while also reducing fuel use and logistic burdens to the warfighter.
• The successful candidate will carry out design, fabrication and system integration and testing a laboratory and field environment; therefore this position requires a solid fundamental understanding of the physical, chemical and control phenomena required to complete the project.
• The candidate will need to be able to apply the concepts of systems engineering and MOSA (Modular Open Systems Approach), in combination with computer-aided design/modeling prior to actual fabrication and test of a prototype.
Qualifications:
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline with at least 7 years’ experience with the design and development of electro-mechanical and software systems for military, aerospace, automotive and consumer products – to include CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) projects including FEA (Finite Element Analysis).
• Experience in directing field tests and inspections.
• Complete familiarity in the following tools required: SolidWorks, ABAQUS, HyperMesh, MATLAB/Simulink and C/C++.
• Green Card holders will be considered for this position, but will require Contracting Officer approval before being allowed to start work.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Individuals with expertise and experience in deployable gasification systems will be highly competitive for this position.
