I second that, great post.
In my opinion the reason why progressive change in our society happens so slowly and there is so much aversion and resistance to it is because of extreme conservatism and fear. Instead of the populus only concerned with the absolute most up to date science and truth about matters, they wish to simply feel safe in the old regurgitation about what is traditional and what was once thought in the past. Societies must adapt through time, they must change. It is natural. It is rather surprising that there is still such hostility to a healing flower after so many decades in the mainstream, despite its illegality. The weak minded want to wrap themselves up in what they feel is a warm blanket of knowns (traditional conservative assumptions from the past) and fear change and so there is resistance to adaptation even though change is exactly what is needed to progress in time. It's ideological conservatism run amock and its derivative is fear and its byproduct is suffering. Hopefully the current generations of the world will cast away their ignorance and assumptions and approach new problems with new solutions that lead the way to progress.
