WASHINGTON, Feb. 26, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) applauds corporate and business leaders for taking a bold stance against Arizona's SB1062 – a bill that, if passed, would allow businesses to deny service to LGBT persons based on religious beliefs.
The USHCC currently forms part of a business coalition opposing SB-1062, including the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC), the National Black Justice Coalition, and the U.S Business Leadership Network
"The USHCC has stood against discriminatory legislation in the past and will continue to reject any law that targets a specific group based on ethnicity, gender, religion or sexual-orientation," said USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez. "We know that implementing such laws is bad for business and bad for America, so we will work tirelessly to block its passage."
Arizona's SB1062 has garnered significant resistance from the business community, including more than 80 corporations, business organizations and trade groups that have publicly rejected this legislation.
"I especially wish to applaud our friends at the NGLCC for rallying America's business organizations to stand against this draconian bill, and visionary, fearless leaders like American Airlines' CEO Doug Parker, Verizon's CEO Lowell McAdams, and all those in the business community who have bravely united against discrimination," continued Palomarez. "Lastly, I also commend Senator John McCain and Senator Jeff Flake for exhibiting laudable political courage and calling on Governor Brewer to veto this law."
