American Truck Showrooms Converts 90% of Rental Fleet to Diesel Particulate Filter, California Air Resources Board (CARB) Compliant Trucks

GULFPORT, Miss., Feb. 21, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- American Truck Showrooms ( www.americantruckshowrooms.com ), a leading certified pre-owned Class 8 truck dealership has recently converted 90% of its rental fleet to trucks containing Diesel Particulate Filters (or DPF) to comply with recent California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations.

A DPF works to remove the majority of the mono- nitrogen oxides particulate matter or soot from burned diesel fuel. Soot is a natural byproduct of diesel fuel combustion.

Located on the inside of the filter, is a porous honeycomb structure that catches the soot as it passes. Over time, the soot accumulates and the filter either has to be replaced or the accumulated soot has to be incinerated passively through the use of a catalyst or by active means such as heating the filter to soot combustion temperatures.

On February 18, 2014 President Obama instructed the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) to create the "next stage" of fuel efficiency for medium and heavy duty trucks by March 2015, saying the standards are the key to "saving thousands of dollars every year" in fuel cost for all trucking companies small and large.

"We are in the process of eliminating non-compliant trucks from our program inventory. Currently, we are at about 90%, however by the time the new law goes into effect, our goal is to be at 100%," said the CEO of American Truck Showrooms.

To comply with the new regulations, ATS is offering CARB compliant trucks in their "Rent to Buy" American Dream Program . Drivers have the option to trade in their current truck and use it as part of the down payment for a newer model CARB compliant truck. Both the Gulfport and Atlanta locations have CARB compliant trucks in stock and ready to rent.
