Yes, I do remember the company said the shares would be returned to the treasury. If I am not mistaken, management was considering, at the time, to possibly using those shares in a conversion to preferred shares to bring on investors. Not sure if they ever went through with that idea? Since nothing was said again, I assume they did not follow through with it.
