OBJE to Give Indie Developers Platform to Create Next ‘Flappy Bird’
As the enormous popularity of mobile gaming apps continues to grow, Obscene Interactive, the gaming division of OBJ Enterprises (OTCBB: OBJE), is developing an innovative new online development platform to assist independent game makers create, publish and market the next Flappy Bird.
An impossibly simple and maddeningly difficult hit title, Flappy Bird has become a cash cow for indie game developer Dong Nguyen. Before Nguyen removed the game from the Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) App Store and Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) Play Store over the weekend, Flappy Bird accrued 50 million downloads and was earning an average of $50,000 per day. Nguyen has also scored hits with Super Ball Juggling and Shuriken Block, both of which have hovered around the App Store’s top ten downloads.
While the unprecedented success of Flappy Bird has been a landmark achievement for indie game developers, OBJE is working to make such success stories easier to come by. The company is readying a new online platform to make independent game development and distribution easier—and potentially, more profitable—than ever before.
“There’s a market out there of more than 500 million mobile gamers worldwide spending more than $9 billion annually on apps,” said OBJE CEO Paul Watson. “We plan to capture a share of that growing market by helping indie developers to design and deliver gaming apps that will make Flappy Bird look like a passing fad.”
OBJE is already partnering with fledgling gaming studios to release hot new titles for smartphones and tablets. The company earned its first revenues last year by releasing new games including Phantasmic and Bluff Wars 2.0 and Creature Tavern, with many more new releases penciled in for the new year.
Through its gaming division, Obscene Interactive, OBJE is working to deliver innovative and engaging gaming products for the Apple App Store and Google Play market alongside companies such as Glu Mobile Inc. (NASDAQ: GLUU) and The9 Limited (NASDAQ: NCTY).
