IPTV Market Leader Report – Year-end 2013
January 2014
Abstract
MRG’s IPTV Market Leader Reports (MLR) identify which IPTV systems and software companies are leading each of the six IPTV market segments: access systems, video headend systems (VHE), video-on-demand server software (VOD), set-top boxes (STB), middleware (MW), and content protection/digital rights management (CP/DRM). The data is further segmented by the following geographic regions: North America, Latin America/Caribbean, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Asia Pacific and the Middle East/Africa.
Among the global leaders, the big winner was ZTE taking the top position in VOD, STB and middleware. Alcatel-Lucent continues to lead in access, while Verimatrix continues to lead in the CP/DRM segment and Harmonic leads in video headends. ZTE has been successful in working with many Asian IPTV operators.
Among the major changes in this report are acquisitions that have closed recently. Ericsson acquired the assets of Microsoft’s Mediaroom technology so all Mediaroom customers are now under Ericsson in this report. In addition, ARRIS completed its acquisition of Motorola’s assets from Google so ARRIS now appears in new product categories. Interestingly, ZTE has taken the lead in middleware in this report, replacing Microsoft’s Mediaroom (now Ericsson) which led for about five years in a row.
The report features complete IPTV vendor rankings for each product category with totals for each region, as well as globally. The report also breaks down service providers by tier (1 – 5) and identifies how many service providers are in each tier where each vendor has products deployed. In addition, vendors that are working with the top 25 global service providers (as measured by total IPTV subscribers) are highlighted in order to better gauge future growth prospects.
More than 80 vendors and 955 IPTV service providers are tracked in this report.
Market leaders are determined by the number of deployed IPTV subscribers using a given vendor’s products, except for the IPTV video headend segment which is calculated on input channels.
