There’s a price war happening in the mobile operator market that has Wall Street worried and consumers cheering. For years, the industry has enjoyed healthy margins and has basically imposed its will on consumers. Number 4 mobile operator, T-Mobile, has intensified the competition with aggressive pricing strategies and bring your own device plans. Number 2 AT&T reacted by offering to pay customers who switch from T-Mobile to AT&T. And so the war has begun.
We believe that we may be witnessing a race to the bottom. As mobile phones become a necessity and not a luxury, we feel it is time to offer more affordable solutions to meet the needs of all consumers. T-Mobile seems to embrace this ideal. T-Mobile CEO John Legere brushed off concerns about the risk to profits when asked about dueling discounts at T -Mobile’s CES event. He said he would prefer to give consumers a good deal even if his company never matches the profits of its biggest rivals.
The most significant upfront cost of your mobile connection is your phone. Currently, the certification process that the mobile industry has in place to approve hardware is expensive and blocks new entrants like verykool™. This has worked well for the major handset manufacturers and allowed them to maintain significant market share. However, as mobile operators look for ways to bring the cost of service down for consumers, we believe they will begin to work with companies like ours to make it easier for us to get certified.
At verykool™ we focus on delivering value without compromising quality or style. For consumers who are more concerned about performance than about designer labels, verykool™ handsets can make mobile connectivity and computing more affordable. At the end of the day, one thing is for sure, this battle will result in a win for consumers.
